Severe storms have developed in northwestern Minnesota and they are expected to form into a line a charged to the southeast Saturday night into overnight hours.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for a large area of central and northern Minnesota.

“Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible,” the NWS said, adding that damaging winds up to 70 mph and a tornado or two are also possible.

Earlier Saturday, storms south of the Twin Cities went severe and there was a confirmed tornado southwest of Kenyon in Rice County.

Here’s how the HRRR model shows storms evolving in the rest of the night. If accurate, it could mean storms near the Twin Cities metro around midnight.
