GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — This week on “To The Point,” what you need to know as you prepare to vote in the primary election.

County Clerks Lia Posthumus Lyons and Justin Roebuck, from Kent and Ottawa counties respectively, talk about being ready for new voting parameters and remind you of old rules that voters sometimes forget.

For example, do you know if you are registered to vote? Roebuck tells us.

“Residents all across the state, I always recommend Michigan.gov/vote . (It’s a) super easy and simple website. You can go there and actually check your registration status or check to see if you’re registered you also check to see if your address has been updated,” he said.

And what about voting absentee? It’s now something everyone can do, and it can be almost automatic according to Posthumus Lyons.

“Because we now have what’s essentially automatic absentee ballots going out to an individual voter who has signed an absentee ballot application and checked the box that they want to have an absentee ballot delivered to them in all future elections in perpetuity,” she said.

Absentee ballots are available now and in-person early voting will begin later this month

All that and more on this “To The Point” episode for the weekend of July 13.
