Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk is considering leaving the club , according to claims made by a journalist on a TV show in the Netherlands.

This speculation has arisen from comments made by the Liverpool captain following the Netherlands' exit from Euro 2024 . "I have no idea at the moment," Van Dijk told reporters when asked about his future. "I will think carefully this summer about what I want at club level and as an international. Then we will go for it again, but first recover from this."

These comments have sparked controversy in his home country. "This says enough," journalist Valentine Driessen said on Vandaag Inside Oranje, via the Liverpool ECHO . "He is thinking about quitting Liverpool and the Dutch national team. So, that is already in his mind. Then you actually have to say goodbye."

Former player-turned-pundit Johan Derksen also claimed: "That is not unwise."

Meanwhile, another Liverpool defender, Adam Lewis, has bid farewell to the club. He has signed for Morecambe on a free transfer after being released by the Reds earlier this month. Upon joining his new club along with 14 other players, Lewis shared a message on social media. "19 years at a special club has come to an end," the player captioned a post on Instagram.

"Would like to say a massive thanks to staff, players and fans for everything and all the opportunities I’ve had. Liverpool will always hold a special place in my heart. Now onto a new chapter, looking forward to the season ahead and meeting the fans can’t wait to get started."

The commitment is sealed with a one-year deal at Morecambe following his loan stint at Newport County.
