Cesc Fabregas set to sign two ex-Liverpool stars in eye-catching transfer raid

Cesc Fabregas, the former Arsenal and Chelsea star who is now a minority shareholder at Como 1907, is reportedly set to sign two ex-Liverpool players for the newly-promoted Serie A side.
The Italian outfit is looking to bolster its squad significantly in preparation for its first season in Italy's top-flight in over two decades. Fabregas, who ended his playing career with Como, briefly took on the role of interim head coach last season before handing the reins to Osian Roberts due to not having a UEFA Pro coaching license.
However, he remained as an assistant and is expected to step up as manager this summer once he has the necessary qualifications. Under the guidance of Roberts and Fabregas, Como secured automatic promotion last season by finishing second in Serie B on the final day of the season.
Now, they're working on strengthening their squad ahead of the new campaign. Reports suggest that Como is hopeful of signing Raphael Varane after his departure from Manchester United. They're also said to be close to securing deals for goalkeeper Pau Lopez from Marseille and Rodri Sanchez from Real Betis.
Additionally, there are rumors linking them with a move for former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial, whose contract at Old Trafford has also come to an end, reports the Liverpool Echo .
However, the ex-Manchester United duo aren't the only high-profile free transfers on the horizon. Fabregas is poised to make multiple moves for Como this summer, with reports (via Football Italia ) suggesting that he's close to signing former Liverpool duo Pepe Reina and Alberto Moreno.
The Spanish pair have been playing together at Villarreal for the last two seasons, but both departed the La Liga outfit when their contracts expired this summer. Now, both players have agreed to move to Como on free transfers, with Fabrizio Romano reporting they will each sign one-year deals with the Italian side.
Reina made his move to Liverpool from Villarreal in a £6m deal back in July 2005, and went on to feature in 394 matches during his eight-season stint with the Reds. He was loaned out to Napoli in the summer of 2014, getting his first taste of Serie A football, before making a permanent switch to Bayern Munich in August 2014.
He later returned to both Napoli and Villarreal, with spells at AC Milan, Aston Villa on loan and Lazio sandwiched between his second stints with the aforementioned clubs.
On the other hand, Moreno arrived at Anfield just a week after Reina's departure to Bayern, signing from Sevilla in a £12m deal in August 2014. He racked up 141 appearances for the Reds before leaving when his contract ended in 2019, having lost his spot to Andy Robertson , and subsequently signed for Villarreal on a free transfer.
During his tenure at Anfield, Reina clinched the FA Cup, League Cup and European Super Cup. Moreno, on the other hand, left as a Champions League victor, with his departure announced just days after Liverpool's triumph over Tottenham Hotspur in the 2019 European Cup final.
