Lamine Yamal could cost Liverpool huge summer transfer after Euro 2024 comments

Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams have emerged as two of the stars of Euro 2024 - and they could be united at Barcelona if Yamal has his wish. The teenage sensation has urged Barcelona to sign his international teammate , who has also been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool.

As well as the Reds , Aston Villa, Arsenal and Newcastle United have also been credited with an interest in the Athletic Bilbao winger. Williams made 31 appearances in the top flight of Spanish football last season, scoring five goals and adding 11 assists.

However, any interested party will likely encounter a major stumbling block in securing the 22-year-old winger, given his huge wage demands. According to HITC . Williams seeks a weekly wage of around $389,000 (£300k/€356k).

Despite this, Yamal is pushing for his current employer Barcelona to complete a deal for his Spanish teammate, given the bond the pair have formed while out in Germany this summer. “Yes, I wish Nico could come to Barca,” Yamal said to Diario Sport earlier this summer.

“At the first meeting, I met Nico and then we became very good friends. We get along very well. You can see that on the pitch too, that we are very close, that we are very good friends. And that is the most important thing to have the connection on the pitch.”

Both Yamal and Williams will be hoping to secure the European Championships trophy on Sunday in Berlin, as Spain takes on England in the final. Luis de la Fuente's side beat France in a dramatic comeback victory in the first semi-final, thanks to an audacious effort from Yamal to level the scoreline, while England beat the Netherlands following Ollie Watkins' late winner on Wednesday.

Liverpool.com says: Williams has shown how much of a talent he is during the international tournament. His dribbling ability, pace and desire to create for his teammates is exactly what Liverpool needs on the left wing. However, with Luis Diaz's future yet to be determined, the Reds may need to decide whether to extend or cut his time at the club short. Barcelona is one of the clubs being linked with Diaz, meaning if they sold to the Catalan club, it would remove one other competitor for the signature of Williams this summer.
