A SKINCARE fan has shared the lesson her mom imparted to her.

Redditor Yllwbrd shared the beauty and anti-aging tips in a post.

"My mom is now in her 50s, but when she was younger, she was a sun worshipper," she said.

She explained that her mom used to have completely different skin than she has now.

"I have photos of her when she was pregnant with me, completely brown and tanning by the pool (we naturally have fair skin)," she said.

"When she turned 40, she still looked great, but had sun damage and her skin was looking a little worn down."

To turn her skin around, her mom began with a trip to the dermatologist.

"She went to a derm and has faithfully followed her routine for years," she said.

A skincare routine helped turn back years of sun damage.

"She cleanses gently, uses moisturizer and a retinoid, and wears sunblock religiously."

The changes to her skin have been night and day, leading to frequent compliments from strangers.

"She looks amazing. Constantly mistaken for my sister and always complimented on her skin," she added.

On top of a consistent routine, her mom treats herself to keep up with the effects of the sun.

She gets peels once or twice a year at the derm and has had treatment for the sun damage, but some of it could not be completely fixed (her chest mostly)," she said.

The Redditor explained that she's learned a great life and beauty lesson from witnessing her mom's comeback.

"She's really a great example of how, even later in life, skin care can be extremely helpful and how important sun protection is," she said.

"She has said to me lots of times, 'I feel like I look great for my age, but I always wonder how much better I would look if I had used sunblock and not tanned.'"

Others seconded the importance of sunscreen, along with their parents' go-to tips and tricks.

"My mom is 56 and looks really good. I think what gives her mostly away is her hair: she used to lighten it for years and didn't know how to take care of it, so it's kind of fried," said one commenter.

"She aged a bit a few years ago because of a family tragedy we had to endure, but if it didn't happen, she'd probably look a good few years younger.

"Her big things are sunscreen, no more than a glass or two of wine every couple weeks, no drugs, no smoking and no hanging around smokers, and genetics."
