Tri-County Adult Day Care is offering free services to young adults with mental or physical limitations and elderly individuals seeking a safe place to socialize in Butler, Covington and Conecuh Counties.

“We can pick them up at their home and bring them to the facility where we start the day with breakfast,” said facility director Rita Willis. “After breakfast, we offer a morning devotional and then we’ll have some activities like dominoes, bingo or spades. Sometimes we do arts and crafts.”

The day care provides two hot meals and a snack daily, along with transportation to and from clients’ homes. They also offer trips into town for grocery shopping, doctor appointments, and even recreational activities.

“We will take them into town and help them with shopping or whatever they need,” Willis said. “But sometimes we go just to have fun and we’ll do something like go to the ice cream shop.”

Willis noted that most attendees are referred through the Department of Human Resources (DHR) and receive services at no cost. However, non-referral options are also available. The facility currently serves 33 individuals but has accommodated up to 45 at times.

“We have people that come for all different reasons,” Willis said. “We have one young man who finished school and his mother just needed some help during the day so she could work.”

Tri County Adult Day Care caters to a diverse group, with the youngest attendee being 23 and the oldest 101, who has been attending since 2004. The program is not only for those with disabilities but is also an excellent way for the elderly to socialize.

The facility operates Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., providing a structured environment with activities to stimulate both mind and body, under the eye of a full-time nurse to monitor clients’ health conditions daily.
