A source told People at the time that Garner wasn’t “happy” about the romance, but she was more concerned about Affleck maintaining his sobriety and parenting their children.

“Is she happy about him hanging out with a very young Playboy model? Certainly not,” a source said. “But her concern right now is not who he is dating. What she ultimately cares about is his sobriety and whether she can rely on him to co-parent.”

“He is happy being able to date who he wants and not feel tied down to a serious relationship,” another source said. “… Ben likes a woman with brains and beauty, but he also likes to be free to do what he wants.”

Affleck and Sexton broke up so he could focus on more critical aspects of his life. “He enjoyed being with her but is working on himself, and being together with her at this time is not something that works,” a friend told People . “He will date in the future, but for now, his focus is on his sobriety, family, and his next project.”

Ben Affleck entered rehab for alcohol addiction on Aug. 22, 2018 — a week after he was spotted out to dinner with Shauna Sexton. A source told Page Six in 2018 that they didn’t believe Sexton had any “respect” for Affleck or his sobriety, given how she loved to party.

“At the end of the day, in order to be in recovery, [Affleck] needs to be by himself and taking care of his family,” the source shared. “He’s being used by this girl. Anyone who drinks the way she drinks and is out there publicizing it and their relationship has no respect for him or his family.”

Sexton defended herself on social media after the allegations. She admitted to making “mistakes” on Instagram but claimed they don’t define her. “Do these mistakes mean I would disrespect someone’s hard-earned sobriety by drinking with them or in front of them? Hell no,” she wrote.
