Shannen Doherty dies - 90210 and Charmed star dead at 53 after cancer battle

90210 and Charmed star Shannen Doherty has sadly died at the age of 53 after a lengthy cancer battle.

After living with cancer for many years, Shannen sadly died on July 13. The sad news was confirmed today by her publicist.

The statement reads: "It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease.

"The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace," the statement went on.

Shannen was first diagnosed with cancer in 2015. She announced that she had breast cancer in 2015, with it later being revealed that she had gone into remission before it returned. In 2020, she revealed she had stage four breast cancer.

Then, back in June 2023, Shannen gave a health update when she revealed that the cancer had spread to her brain.

Speaking to PEOPLE last year ahead of Thanksgiving, Shannen said: "I don’t want to die." She went on: "I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better."

She then said: "I’m just not — I’m not done.”

Shannen shot to fame when she starred as Brenda Walsh on the original Beverly Hills, 90210, which came out in 1990. She then left the show in 1994, before making a guest appearance in 2008 doe the reboot.

Reacting to the sad news of Shannen's death, fans have flocked to social media to share messages of condolence. One person wrote on X: "No one will understand how heartbroken I am. The biggest part of my childhood in my fav tv show ever gone…." A second person then said: "Shannen Doherty made Charmed and was a huge impact in my life, morale and all. RIP Shannen, gone but never forgotten."

A third added: "rip shannen doherty :( you will be very missed, thank you for playing such a monumental part in my childhood." And a fourth person said: "I know she’s been sick for awhile but this one broke me… charmed is my absolute favorite show ever and connects me to my mom who passed when I was 13 (her favorite show was charmed as well). RIP Shannen we will always love you."
