I abandoned my $50 cart of groceries at Walmart after its self-checkout change – and now I’m forced to shop elsewhere

A WALMART shopper has shared his gripes over the company’s self checkout usage.
He added himself to the chorus of complaints against the new tech at the company .

Facebook user John vented that he left the store even after completing his shopping thanks to an understaffed store.
He’s one of a vocal group of shoppers refusing to use self-checkout machines.
The company has increasingly used staff to supervise self-checkouts, placing strain on staff working ordinary checkout lanes.
While it’s not clear if that’s what happened to John, his frustrations are echoed by others.
THE POST
John shared his experience in response to a news story about self-checkouts.
“I went to a Wal-Mart one day and had $45.00 or $50.00 dollars worth of groceries in the cart,” he said. “Get to the check-out lanes and there was NOT a live person working ANY of these.”
Particularly during slow hours of the day, stores sometimes rely on self-checkout instead of employees.
That leaves some who prefer to be checked out by a store associate disappointed.
John is one of those shoppers.
“Left my cart AND the groceries in lane #2 and went to another store,” he said.
“I WILL NOT use self check-outs!!!!”
It’s not clear what store he went to instead.
CHECKOUT CHANGES
In an effort to prevent theft, Walmart has begun scaling back its use of self-checkout machines.
The company began removing them from some stores last year.
At other stores, they are limiting the usage of self-checkout.
Some places have set aside machines for Walmart+ members only.
That’s caused outrage for some shoppers who want to use the lanes without paying a $98 annual fee.
Others have bashed the company’s decision to limit some self-checkouts to customers with 15 items or fewer .
Dollar General is removing self-checkout lanes at thousands of stores.
A new “sensory” change at Walmart has some vowing to shop there for life.
Why doesn't Walmart offer Apple Pay?
CEO of Walmart Doug McMillon has revealed why stores don't offer Apple Pay on Stratechery with Ben Thompson.
Though using Apple Pay at the retailer has been an ongoing conversation, McMillon emphasized that “We would like to have the customers open our app in the store all the time.”
The app can be used to help find items in the store, but it can also be used to pay for your purchases.
“That’s one of the things that we would like people to use our app for,” he said.
