Dogs have very keen senses. Their ears can hear thunder or loud sounds from miles away, and their noses always know when we are preparing their favorite meals.

Those powerful sniffers can also tell when we have hidden something in their food, even if we have tried to conceal it in layers of tasty goodness. They don’t hold back their feelings when they realize they’ve been fooled, and that’s precisely what Corgi did when he understood Dad had betrayed him.

Take a look at his priceless face in this video shared on July 6:

It’s hard to give our pups a pill when they don’t enjoy taking them. Rocket’s dad (@ skipandraleigh ) sure made quite an effort to hide his medicine, but this good boy couldn’t be duped. Even though he rolled the pill with a thick layer of cream cheese and a coating of shredded cheddar, this charming Corgi mix caught onto his tricks fast. Initially, he was pleased by this delightful surprise. However, after chewing it for a brief moment, his pause, combined with the side-eye, told his parents he knew what they had done. Talk about a look, saying 1000 words! This seemed to leave him torn between eating the tasty cheeses or spitting out the pill. LOL, it’s a tough choice to make!

Tricks for Giving Dogs Their Medicine

While it’s difficult to give some dogs their pills no matter what you may try, finding the right food for your pup can make all the difference.

    1. Flavorful Meats. Using something delicious and extra-special, like pate, can make even the fussiest pill taker gobble them up. Hot dogs, bologna, chicken, or peanut butter can also be effective.

    2. Sticky Cheese. Pre-wrapped cheese slices that are extra sticky can be a helpful way to administer a pill, as they make it difficult for them to separate it. When using this method, I prepare several bites. First, I hand off a plain piece, then one with the pill, quickly followed by a few plain pieces to help encourage swallowing swiftly.

    3. Butter or Coconut Oil: For my extremely fussy Frenchie, I chop up her heartworm preventative and drizzle a tiny amount of melted butter over the top, ensuring it’s all coated. It’s the only method I’ve ever found successful.

The look on this good boy’s face amused people. One person joked, “The moment he realized you roofied him.” He didn’t hold back. Viewer @Red remarked, “Whelp, that trick is off the list.” That’s for sure. Another person offered, “I used to drop like a piece of chicken with my dog’s pill in it and pretend it was an accident and try to get it before him.” That’s clever gameplay.

Hopefully, one of these methods can help next time you give your fussy dog a pill. Despite being unsuccessful for this pup, cream cheese and cheddar might work with yours.
