Good late morning everyone. Heat and thunderstorms remain the topic of converstaion as we enter the "dog days" of summer. It has been an exceptionally hot summer so far, with a Bermuda-high-dominant season and hot ait being pumped into the Midwest and East Coast.

As far as heat is concerned, hot temperatures continue in the Southeast and along the Gulf into the Plains. The West Coast continues to bake as well for an unusual setup across the CONUS. The big story as far as heat, will be a 4 day heatwave in the NYC area and the Northeast. We start off today in the low 90's, then mid 90's tomorrow, and 95-100 degree temps Tuesday through Wednesday.

A fairly decent cold front is expected to move through the area Wednesday through Thursday, creating concerns for some severe weather from Boston, to New York City, and down into the D.C. area, but the air behind isn't much cooler. What will set off this possible line of severe weather, will be the contrast of hot tropical air, and very warm/dry air behind it. "Relief" will be found in the form of a brief stint of mid to upper 80's with lower humdity, before hot & humid conditions quickly return.

Our current severe weather risk remains in the Upper Plains and Central States. As this article is written, we have some heavy showers and storms in northern Illinois and Indiana, but that is not the headliner. Severe weather is expected to gather itself up across southern Wisonsin, northern Indiana/southern Michigan, upper Ohio, before rowing through their respective states.

Look for the risk of damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes across parts of Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, lower Michigan, and Ohio later this afternoon/evening and into the overnight hours. We will also see a secondary line or lines form in North Dakota, then race into Minnesota in the early morning hours.

Please stay tuned to the latest watches and warnings in your area. Take precautionary action in areas impacted by the heatwave, and be prepared to take action in order to save property and life in areas where severe weather is possible.
