Summer is in full swing and there's no better way to enjoy it than a dip in the pool. Hazelnut the Dachshund fully supports this and is taking advantage of the warm weather with a little "me" time.

A July 9, 2024 TikTok video shared by @hollyandhazelnut shows the gloriously happy pup lounging in her favorite pool toy on a sunny summer day and to be honest, we're jealous! See her pure bliss, and prepare to have major FOMO!

The brief 8-second clip opens with Hazelnut calmly relaxing in a big yellow duck floatie beneath sizzling the summer sun. The crystal water surrounding perfectly encapsulates what summer is all about—taking a step back to enjoy the little things. Not a care in the world, this pampered pooch is absolutely thriving, in her lane, flourishing and it's such a sweet sight to see!

Many commenters just stopped by to pay homage to the Dachshund's definition of "living the dream," which is honestly what she's doing. We can only imagine she followed this up with a refreshing pup mocktail and massage from Mom. This is what we call the perfect day!

    Pool Safety Rules For Dachshunds

According to Priority Pet Hospital, it's important to practice pool safety with any dog in you home, but with their long bodies and short, stumpy legs, Dachshunds should be extra careful. Teaching them to swim and exit the pool may help, but since they're not made to be great swimmers, lifejackets can literally save a life should they fall in.

This aside, limit access to the pool unless you're right there to help them if they need it. Other things to remember when it comes to responsible pet safety:

    • Young and senior pets are generally the poorest swimmers and most likely to fall in.

    • Don’t forget that small pets can drown in hot tubs and garden ponds, too.

    • Cold pools are dangerous too–especially for pets that are too short to jump out of the water.

    • Pool water is safe for pets to drink, but it’s best to provide plenty of fresh tap water nearby.

    • Keep your dog’s nails trimmed to an appropriate length and teach good pool manners.

    • Use a drying ear cleanser after swimming to reduce the risk of ear infections

Though the list isn't exhaustive, the bottom line is to stay vigilant when your Dachshund (or any dog) is around water. Hazelnut is clearly living her best life lounging in a pool float , and Mom was right there to capture the moment and keep her safe. This is one pool day we can get behind!
