CHEAT MOUNTAIN, W.Va. (WBOY) — A camper fire in Randolph County became so severe that gas containers exploded, causing a brush fire.

According to a Facebook post from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office , Sheriff Rob Elbon and West Virginia State Police Corporal D.R. Wolford responded to a vehicle fire on Route 250 South halfway up Cheat Mountain on Friday July 12, where they observed a camper on fire.

As firefighters attempted to put out the fire, liquified petroleum gas (LPG) tanks began exploding and “flew from the vehicle creating a brush fire alongside the roadway.” The brush fire was extinguished and the camper was later put out by fire suppression foam.

A Randolph County 911 official confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.

The Facebook post states that the Huttonsville-Mill Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Randolph EMS and Tygart Valley Fire Company also responded to the scene.
