    Study: Louisiana ranks in top 10 deadliest US states for tornadoes

    BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A new study revealed that Louisiana is one of the top 10 deadliest U.S. states for tornadoes.

    Gatti, Keltner, Bienvenu & Montesi, PLC , personal injury attorneys, looked at state-wide data as reported by the National Centers for Environmental Information. According to a news release, the data was then, grouped into an index and scaled per 100,000 people.

    “Tornadoes, thunderstorms, and destructive winds are forecast to take place in July 2024,” said Mike Montesi, managing partner for Gatti, Keltner, Bienvenu & Montesi, PLC. “It’s essential to be vigilant and stay informed on the local area’s weather conditions throughout the period.”

    Louisiana was ranked as the seventh deadliest state for tornadoes. According to the study, Louisiana had a final index score of 60.70 out of 100. Between January 2019 to May 2024, the state saw 45 tornadoes that were EF2 or stronger, 14 direct deaths and 107 direct injuries.
