Purchasing an affordable vehicle might seem like a practical choice and not an investment, but that’s not always the case. There are reasonably priced cars on the market that are only expected to shoot up in value over the next ten years.

“Classic cars can be a great way to invest if you’re looking to buy a relatively affordable vehicle now and potentially sell it for a higher price in the future,” said Alan Gelfand, the owner of German Car Depot , an independent automotive service center specializing in the service and repair of German vehicles.

Gelfand added, “As these cars become rarer and more desired by collectors who love automotive history, their value tends to go up.”

Here are a few affordable cars that will skyrocket in value over the next decade.

    BMW 2002

“The BMW 2002, made between 1968 and 1976, is loved for its sporty feel and its important place in BMW history as the model before the famous BMW 3 Series,” Gelfand remarked.

These cars are getting harder to find in great condition, which is pushing their prices up and is why Gelfand recommends getting in on one now while you still can.

“Right now, you can find them for about $7,000 to $15,000, depending on their condition,” he explained. “These prices could double in the next ten years, especially for the well-maintained ones or those with special features like the tii variant.”

    Chevy Bolt

Ben Michael, the director of auto at Michael & Associates , believes Chevy Bolts should increase in value over the next decade.

“These cars have already proven to have consistently good resale values, much higher than the average vehicle,” Michael said before noting that 2023 models typically go for about $26,000.

“On top of that, Bolts are no longer manufactured, which means there is a finite quantity available,” he pointed out. “The finite quantity left means that this car is only going to become more rare, and rarity causes value to increase.”

    Nissan 300ZX (Z32)

A throwback to the 90’s can be found in this Nissan twin-turbo sports car which offers a solid balance of performance and nostalgia, all of which add to its anticipated appreciation.

Back in 2021, Car and Driver highlighted how “… [although] a few years ago just about any Z32 could be had for a song, there has now been a definite bifurcation in pricing.

“Non-turbo 300ZXs can still be found for well under $10,000 but will climb toward $20,000 depending on mileage. High-mileage Turbos start in the mid to high teens. The best Turbos live from $40,000 to just under $60,000, but decent ones can be found in the mid-$20,000s.”

    Volkswagen Beetle

Specifically, you’ll need a Volkswagen Beetle from the year 1967. That’s because this bug is another classic car expected to see a big rise in value, according to Gelfand.

“Collectors often consider the 1967 Beetle the best year because it has a unique mix of features before major changes were made in 1968,” said Gelfand.

“Currently, you can find these cars priced between $13,000 and $40,000,” he remarked. “As they become rarer, their value is expected to go up. The Beetle’s iconic status and the fond memories people have of it also help boost its potential appreciation.”

    Porsche 944

“The Porsche 944, produced from 1982 to 1991, is another affordable classic expected to increase in value,” explained Gelfand, noting how the Porsche 944 is known for its balanced handling and performance.

“As it gets harder to find well-preserved models, their prices are starting to climb,” he continued. “You can buy a Porsche 944 now for around $10,000 to $25,000, but expect these prices to go up as the car becomes more of a classic and parts become harder to find.”
