Marc Geuhi transfer latest: Liverpool 'inquiry' and Man Utd 'interest' ahead of Euro 2024 final

Liverpool should be looking to sign another center-back this summer to bolster the ranks that Arne Slot has inherited. With Joel Matip having departed, the Reds are looking a little light of numbers in that department.

Last month, The Telegraph reported that England ace Marc Guehi was a player on the radar of Liverpool . Formerly of Chelsea, Crystal Palace would supposedly demand a fee of around $83m (£65m/€76m) to let him leave — but it has no real interest in cashing in. Manchester United and Spurs are also among the clubs who are keen.

But this week, Fabrizio Romano, reporting for Caught Offside , has suggested that while Liverpool made an "inquiry" for Guehi around March of this year, nothing has advanced further since. No "proposals or negotiations" have taken place and though the Reds should be looking to sign a center-back, Leny Yoro is the only one who has properly been considered so far.

Liverpool would be keen to snap up the 18-year-old Lille man but Real Madrid remains in the driving seat to pick him up. Manchester United is also sniffing around should a deal for Yoro to move to the Bernabeu not take place.

Guehi has impressed with England during the European Championship and starts in the final against Spain in Berlin. He played in all but one of Crystal Palace's games in the top flight last season, too, so clearly ticks the availability box.

Liverpool.com says: Guehi is clearly a good player and should get a move away from Crystal Palace sooner rather than later as he seeks to take the next step in his development. But there is a reasonable question to be asked about whether or not he is actually on Liverpool's radar in terms of being a top candidate this summer.

For one thing, Virgil van Dijk is still going to be at Anfield for at least one more season (and ideally a lot more). The Dutchman will have Guehi's favored position, the left-sided center-back, nailed down for the foreseeable future, which makes the chances of Liverpool spending around $80m to sign him seem pretty slim. A good performance in the Euro 2024 final will only see his price head up again.
