Dani Olmo to Liverpool: Transfer state of play as Spain midfielder faces England in Euro 2024 final

Dani Olmo won't have transfer thoughts at the forefront of his mind right now, with Spain set to take on England in the Euro 2024 final. But if the midfielder puts in another performance like the ones he has been producing in the tournament so far, Liverpool supporters will certainly begin to wonder whether we might be seeing him at Anfield .

The RB Leipzig star did not begin the tournament as a starter, but impressed off the bench, and has seized on a Pedri injury to claim a truly starring role. There has duly been much discussion about his release clause , believed to stand at $64m (£50m/€59m) but potentially expiring as soon as tomorrow.

Liverpool has previously been linked with a transfer move . But could he become one of Arne Slot's first recruits, under the reign of new sporting director Richard Hughes ?

Olmo spoke about his future recently. He confirmed that his attention is on the Euros for the time being:

"I'm not worried," he told Spanish media outlet Cadena SER. "I have my people who take care of everything. I have too much to do with the Euros to think about other things.

"Especially now with the final ahead. I don't have anything else on my mind. I have a contract with RB Leipzig. It's not something I think about. The people I trust already know my opinion and what I want to do. That's the only thing that matters."

He also addressed the upcoming expiration of the release clause. The comments are open to interpretation, but did appear to hint at a potential transfer:

"You know what you have to do," he laughed. "If it's later [a bid comes in when the clause is no longer valid], you'll have to fight a little."

Whether Liverpool is involved in such a fight remains to be seen. Some of the latest reports suggest that the Reds are not currently intending to add Olmo to the Anfield ranks, and if they were keen, you would have thought a move would have occurred before the eve of the release clause's expiry.

Nevertheless, talkSPORT names Liverpool, Arsenal and Barcelona among the interested parties. It also notes links to both Manchester City and Manchester United.

Liverpool.com says: Olmo has had an incredible Euros, and he's long been underrated. Having just turned 26, he's an edge case in terms of the Liverpool age policy when it comes to recruitment, but it's not a completely implausible transfer.

However, there are questions over where exactly he would fit into Slot's system. And assuming there's no dramatic late move to trigger the release clause, hashing out a deal could prove overly complicated, especially amid the apparent competition.
