The much-anticipated Twister sequel may be whirling into theaters on July 19, but before you take in the disaster flick's fictional tornadoes, you can do some real-life storm-chasing for yourself—from the comfort of your own couch, that is—with Discovery's new six-part limited series, In the Eye of the Storm .

Debuting tonight, Sunday, July 14, at 10pm Eastern Time on the Discovery Channel, the series features "firsthand accounts and eyewitness footage of dangerously close calls from inside natural disasters," per Warner Bros. Discovery. In the premiere episode, “Trapped in a Twister,” you'll follow tornado spotters who find themselves dangerously stuck in the middle of a rare tornado outbreak in the American Midwest.

Other wild weather events explored in the program include mega-storms like 2021’s Hurricane Ida and the 2023 Maui Wildfires, which were captured by onlookers who "found themselves in the wrong place at the right time and boldly held up their camera phones to document their experiences."

" In the Eye of the Storm will premiere out of Shark Week —our biggest annual programming event—keeping audiences engaged with incredible accounts of near-death experiences caused by nature's greatest forces,” said Howard Lee, President of Discovery Networks. “We’ll witness how people respond in real life-or-death scenarios right as they are unfolding, and we’ll experience the raw intensity of never-before-seen personal recordings.  It’s an awe-inspiring look at the power of Mother Nature and humanity’s courage and resilience.”

Fans in the US have several options to watch In the Eye of the Storm , with episodes going out on the Discovery Channel on Sundays beginning July 14 at 10pm ET. If your cable package offers Discovery, then you're good to go (either on TV or its online Discovery Go service). But if not, you can also access Discovery content through cable-free live TV streaming services including Sling TV , where it costs $8.99 (with your first week free ) on top of a standard Sling Blue or Orange package that each start at $40 a month with your first month half-price . You can also stream the limited series via Discovery Plus or Max .

Check out a sneak peek at In the Eye of the Storm before tuning in to the new nature-focused Discovery show tonight.
