    Multi-vehicle accident shuts down I-79 in Mon Co.

    Update: 6:36 p.m. — Three vehicles were involved in an accident that shut down both north and southbound lanes on I-79 in Monongalia County.

    According to Mon County 911 officials an unknown number of people were transported by ground for further treatment.

    All lanes have since reopened. The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office and EMS, Westover police and fire departments, and Star City and Grandville fire departments all responded to this call.

    Original: MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — A vehicle accident in Monongalia County has shut down I-79 southbound “until further notice.”

    A Facebook post from the Monongalia County Emergency Management Agency stated that I-79 southbound is closed “from the 152 (Westover) exit.”

    12 News reached out to the Monongalia County Communications Center but officials were unable to provide any further information, including how many vehicles were involved or any injuries. According to the WV511 website , the accident occurred at mile marker 151.
