ATLANTA, Texas ( KTAL/KSHV ) – Several intersections in East Texas are getting new safety upgrades soon, thanks to plans awarded in June by the Texas Department of Transportation.
Tyler replacing traffic signals at 18 intersections starting Monday “The nighttime lighting systems to be installed are safety enhancements that will provide LED lighting to increase visibility and awareness of the intersection,” said TxDOT Atlanta District Director of Transportation Operations Christina Trowler.
Eleven intersections in Bowie, Cass and Marion Counties will receive the new upgrades.
TxDOT said that some locations will transition from overhead flashing beacons to flashing stop signs along with additional warning signs.
“The signage upgrade will also increase driver awareness of the approaching intersection,” said Trowler.
Vaca Underground Utilities Inc. of Houston was awarded the contract with a low bid of $1,359,816. Officials said work is expected to begin in September and will take approximately 14 months to complete.
Intersections scheduled for improvements are:
- Bowie County: SH 8 at FM 1840
- Cass County: US 59 at FM 2327
- Cass County: SH 77 at FM 2791
- Cass County: FM 125 at FM 251
Intersections scheduled for safety lighting improvements and overhead flashing beacon removal include:
- Cass County: SH 49 at SH 11
- Cass County: SH 155 at SH 49
- Cass County: FM 161 at FM 2612
- Marion County: SH 49 at SH 43
- Marion County: SH 155 at FM 729
- Marion County: FM 134 at FM 2208
- Marion County: FM 3001 at FM 2208
