NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – The Probus Club accepted bicycles and instruments from all across New Haven County Sunday afternoon.

There were drop-off locations in Hamden, West Haven and East Haven. All of the donated bikes will go to people who can’t afford them.

“They sit in people’s garages, and the kid’s left the house,” said Roy Lukacs of the Greater New haven Probus Club. “We collect them, we give them to Bradley bikes, they refurbish them, clean them all up, make sure everything works and donate it to people in need.”

The instruments go to veterans in West Haven and children with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

The Probus Club was founded in 1921 and initially was created to help people with special needs. Their efforts have expanded since the 1920s, now helping under-privileged families, veterans, homeless shelters and incoming refugee support groups.
