UNR Receives Warning of a Possible Threat

Former Med student causes alarm

A warning was sent to the University of Nevada, Reno on Friday regarding a former UNR School of Medicine student.

The message began by saying,

"An independent medical professional has found that former University medical student Matthew Peirce Mahaffey represents a significant risk of substantial harm to the health and safety of others,”

Matthew Mahaffey has been banned from the UNR campus and its activities. Students and faculty are asked to call 911 if Mahaffey is seen at school events or on campus.

“There will be an increased police presence around UNR Med locations.” - the message also said.

Although, the message did not say the reason for the concern.

For now, further instructions regarding workplace arrangements for UNR Med students and employees will come from their supervisors.
