There's nothing like an iced coffee on a hot day but the cost of buying one now makes it a luxury. At my local Starbucks, a grande iced coffee with no extras is $4.20--never mind the cost of a fancier drink (the Hocus Pocus Frappuccino off the secret menu costs a whopping $13.90 in some locations).

When I stumbled across this simple recipe for a single-serving tiramisu latte I couldn't wait to try it. It combines two of my favorite things: coffee and tiramisu. Unlike some versions of the viral Tiktok latte, the recipe doesn't require any fancy equipment and takes just minutes to make.

Best of all, it's delicious. The mascarpone gives the drink a sweet yet tangy taste and the whipping cream makes it extra rich. The unsweetened cocoa ties the Tiramisu flavor together, but with fewer calories than the dessert.

Drink this latte in place of your morning coffee for a caffeine boost. Or top it with a lady finger and enjoy an afternoon pick-me-up. Even better: double the recipe and invite a friend over.

    Iced Tiramisu Latte

    Ingredients

    For the cream:

1 tablespoon mascarpone cheese, at room temperature

2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream, cold

    2 teaspoons powdered sugar

    For the latte:

Double shot of espresso shot (2 ounces) or very strong coffee

    1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup (8 ounces) cold milk

    1 teaspoon granulated sugar

    1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

    Instructions

    1. Brew two shots of espresso (or 2 ounces of strong coffee). Add the granulated sugar, vanilla and the tablespoon of cocoa powder then stir until they dissolve.
    2. Pour the espresso mixture into a cup and add ice until the cup is half full. Pour the milk over the ice and stir.
    3. Place the heavy cream, mascarpone and powdered sugar in a jar with a lid and shake vigorously until the mixture forms soft peaks.
    4. Pour the cream mixture on top of the latte. Use a fine mesh strainer to dust the surface with cocoa powder.

    Notes

This isn't a super sweet recipe, so you may need to add more sugar to suit your own taste.

If you don't have an espresso machine, there are multiple ways to make it without one.

The easiest method is to add 3 tablespoons of regular medium-ground coffee to half a cup boiling water (let the water cool 20-30 seconds before adding the coffee) Steep the mixture 1 minute, stir and steep for 3 more minutes, then pour the coffee through a fine mesh strainer lined with a paper towel.

This recipe can be varied quite a bit. Substitute sugar-free syrup for the sugar or add a dash of liqueur to make the drink alcoholic. If espresso's not your thing, make it with strong decaffeinated coffee. Dairy intolerant? Substitute oat or soy milk for the whole milk.
