Cole Custer broke his Xfinity Series dry spell at Pocono Raceway on Saturday, July 13th, 2024, putting the No. 00 NASCAR Ford Mustang Dark Horse across the line in first. Custer beat close championship contender, Justin Allgaier, driver of the No. 7 Chevy Camaro SS, to the stripe by 0.670 seconds, holding him off after a late-race restart with just nine laps left on the board. The win marks Custer’s 14th in the division and his second at Pocono, following his 2019 victory at the “Tricky Triangle,” and his first since winning the championship race at Phoenix in November 2023.

NASCAR has taken three playoff cars to the R&D Center after the Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway. Following post-race inspection at Pocono, NASCAR gave the all-clear for race winner Ryan Blaney and announced that Christopher Bell’s No. 20 car, Joey Logano’s No. 22 car, and Alex Bowman’s No. 48 car would go to the R&D Center for further inspection.
Bell has arguably been NASCAR’s fastest driver in 2024, while Logano locked himself into the playoffs at Nashville Superspeedway. Meanwhile, Bowman won at the Chicago Street Course and followed it up with a third-place finish at Pocono. After winning races this season, the three drivers are locked into the 2024 NASCAR playoffs.
When NASCAR takes cars to the R&D Center, it usually doesn’t result in any penalties, but the risk is present. NASCAR has given out massive penalties after further inspection at the R&D Center in the NextGen car era. Bell, Logano, and Bowman will likely be cleared on Tuesday or Wednesday, but the possibility of a penalty is always present in this situation.

At times, not much in life has changed for Blaney. “I still drink a lot of beer,” Blaney said, before waiting a beat, “probably more.” Blaney chuckled at the thought, but the reality is, at the track he’s long outgrown the mold of a rising NASCAR star.
