Donovan Dijak is not in a rush to sign anywhere, and he wants to have upward mobility wherever he may land.
Donovan Dijak entered free agency on June 28, as WWE did not renew his contract. He has since returned to the independent scene. Fans continue to buzz about his future. He has been linked to AEW and other companies.
“I mean, yeah, we’ve…I wouldn’t say that they’re conversations, per say, but we’ve reached out to pretty much everybody at this point, just to see what the field has to offer in terms of what people either want or don’t want or what they’re looking for,” Donovan Dijak said. “I know that there’s a lot of things going on backstage with TV rights deals and things like that. New Japan’s doing some shifting around in terms of contracts and stuff.
“Listen, I’m not in a big rush. I’ve been under a contract for seven years. I could use some time not under contract. If the right contract comes around, that’s great. It has to be accomplished by the right conversation to go with it. I’ve been down the road of being handed a contract and said, ‘Take it or leave it and whatever happens, happens,’ and I go, ‘Okay, I need to prove myself. I need to show that I’m a good employee, I need to show that I’m loyal.’”
Donovan Dijak On WWE Run
Donovan Dijak then reflected on his WWE run, saying that he had a great job, but it did not progress or end the way that he envisioned. He stated that, in his mind, he always looks at himself as the best wrestler in the world.
“To a certain extent, it worked out. I had a great job for seven years,” Donovan Dijak said. “That being said, the run didn’t progress and didn’t end the way that I envisioned it progressing and ending. I hold myself to a specific standard. I consider myself and I look at myself as the best wrestler in the world, and I always hold myself to that standard. It doesn’t matter what show I’m on or where I’m on or who else is on the show.
“That stuff doesn’t matter to me in terms of wrestling as a whole. That’s just the way that I’ve always looked at it, and I treat my matches as such. I think a lot of the time, they reflect as such, and that’s my mindset.”
Donovan Dijak Wants Upward Mobility
Donovan Dijak then said that, as he enters free agency, he is keeping that mindset. He stated that, with any offer, he would want to know that upward mobility was possible.
“Now going into this free agency, I’m gonna continue that mindset,” Donovan Dijak said. “If somebody approaches me with a contract or with negotiations or even being on the show as a free agent, I’m still gonna approach it from that same mindset.
“I don’t need to be handed the world, I don’t need to have a bunch of guarantees set in stone like you’re gonna do this and you’re gonna do that. What I need is the knowledge of knowing that if I perform to the best of my ability and the best of my ability is where I think it will be, that there will be the opportunity for upward mobility.”
Dijak also noted that he felt like that wasn’t the case in WWE. He stated that it seemed like he was in a certain spot no matter what he did.
