KANE COUNTY, Utah ( ABC4 ) — In a Sunday evening update, officials said the Deer Springs Fire in Kane County was last measured at 11,783 acres and was 70% contained.

“Today’s operations included continued work to secure the fire line on both flanks of the fire,” an interagency press release said on Sunday. “As the fire lines continue to strengthen, operations will combine two divisions on the west flank and continue to work as needed.”

The fire, which sparked on July 7 , grew to nearly 10,000 acres the day it was discovered. Officials said the blaze appeared to be caused by human activity, but the cause was still under investigation as of July 14.

No evacuations were ordered, and no structures were threatened as of Sunday evening.

“Please note, this will be the last daily update for the Deer Springs Fire unless there are significant changes,” officials said on Sunday.

Some area and road closures remained in effect as of Sunday evening, and Skutumpah Road between Johnson Canyon Road and Lick Wash was open only to residents, according to officials.

Officials said all recreational activities in the Nephi Pasture region and along Skutumpah Road were discouraged. The Nephi Pasture and Crocodile parking lots were closed to the public so that the lots could be used for fire operations.

As of Sunday evening, 151 personnel were assigned to fight the fire. Seven engines, three water tenders, one hot shot crew, two type-2 initial attack crews, one helicopter, and two dozers were on the scene.

The press release said more crews were expected to demobilize as the fire became more contained.
