    Beverly Hills 90210 star Jason Priestly leads heartfelt tributes to Shannen Doherty after death at 53

    Former Beverly Hills 90210 star Jason Priestly has penned a heartfelt tribute to his late co-star Shannen Doherty .

    The actress, loved by many, has tragically passed away at age 53 after courageously battling cancer . Doherty passed away peacefully on July 13th with her loved ones at her side. Her publicist confirmed the sad news on Sunday, July 14.

    The official statement provided by them read: "It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty . On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease . The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace."

    Priestly, recalling his on-screen sister Brenda Walsh, took to Instagram showing his sorrow over the loss of his friend. He posted a nostaglic snapshot from their shared years on the hit show followed with an emotional message which said: "Shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of my friend Shannen. She was a force of nature and I will miss her. Sending love and light to her family in this dark time."

    Another co-star from the show, Gabrielle Carteris who played the character of Andrea Zuckerman, also expressed her profound sadness. Speaking hopefully, she wants Shannen to find solace in the idea of being greeted by their late co-star Luke Perry. Her words were: "So young so sad. May you RIP Shannon. I know Luke is there with open arms to love you."

    Carol Potter, who played Brenda and Brandon's mother Cindy on the iconic show, took to social media to express her heartache. She penned: "Shocked and saddened by news of Shannon Doherty's death. What a journey she has been on! Gone too soon. Throughout, she stayed true to herself and gave us an example of courage and perseverance in facing her own death. May she rest in peace."

    In another heartfelt tribute, Shannen's former Charmed co-star Alyssa Milano shared her condolences. Speaking to US Weekly, Alyssa reflected: "It's no secret that Shannen and I had a complicated relationship, but at its core was someone I deeply respected and was in awe of. She was a talented actress , beloved by many, and the world is less without her. My condolences to all who loved her."

    Shannen Doherty first bravely disclosed her cancer diagnosis in 2015, later announcing a period of remission before the devastating return of the disease. In 2020, she revealed her battle with stage four metastatic breast cancer. By June 2023, the situation grew more dire as Shannen informed her followers that the cancer had progressed to her brain.

    In an emotional conversation with PEOPLE last year as Thanksgiving approached, Shannen shared her fervent desire to live: "I don't want to die." She continued with conviction: "I'm not done with living. I'm not done with loving. I'm not done with creating. I'm not done with hopefully changing things for the better. I'm just not I'm not done."
