Disturbing Image Of Lionel Messi’s Injured Ankle Says It All

There were plenty of concerns about the nature of Lionel Messi's injury after he was taken off the field during Argentina's Copa America Final against Colombia. Now, new video of the injury gave more clarity on the setback.

While sitting on the bench after he was subbed off, Messi can be seen with a swollen right ankle. It was a pretty serious case of an ankle injury, which made the decision to take him out of the game less surprising.

According to USA Today, Messi suffered the injury in the first half after he bent his right foot while trying to chase and kick the ball before it went out of bounds. The Inter Miami star rolled multiples times in pain; however, he played through it until he was unable to continue midway through the second half.

Lionel Messi will likely undergo more tests to determine the severity of the injury. The fact that he played for over 30 minutes after suffering the setback, however, shows how much he wanted to help Argentina win the Copa America.

It's certainly a nasty-looking injury, and Inter Miami and their fans can only hope that Messi didn't make it worse by playing through the issue.
