Simone Biles’ quotes on being cocky
Biles might be the greatest of all time (or the GOAT), and she certainly knows it, saying in 2019, “It’s not out of cockiness. I’ve won five world titles and if I say, ‘I’m the best gymnast there is,’ (the reaction is) ‘Oh, she’s cocky. Look at her now.’ No, the facts are literally on the paper.”
Simone Biles’ quotes on being an idol for young girls
As well as being a great athlete, Biles is also a great idol for young girls. Not only does she teach them that it’s OK to go after what you want, but she also shows them how empowering it is to admit that they are good at something.
In 2019, Biles went on record saying, “It’s important to teach our female youth that it’s OK to say, ‘Yes, I am good at this,’ and you don’t hold back.” Biles continued, “You only see the men doing it. And they’re praised for it, and the women are looked down upon for it. But I feel like it’s good (to do) because once you realize you’re confident and good at it, then you’re even better at what you do.”
Simone Biles’ quotes on what the Olympics have taught her
Biles has appeared in two Summer Olympics thus far and is set to make her third appearance at the Paris Olympics at the end of July, and she has been open and honest about what those experiences have taught her.
“I feel like I learned the most about myself during Tokyo [2021]. How courageous, how brave I am. Because I always like to fake bravery. But I really think that solidified me being brave, speaking up for myself and just putting myself first.”
Simone Biles’ quotes on mental health
Another thing Biles has been very open and honest about? Her mental health, especially when it came to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, which was where Biles withdrew from the competition.
“What I’ve been through, I’ve just always fought through it, and it’s just been really hard. We have triggers and unfortunately, I had one of my biggest ones here. But to come out and come back with a bronze medal [for beam], it means the world to end the Olympics like this.”
Simone Biles’ quotes on experiencing the twisties
The twisties are a condition where acrobats’ minds and bodies feel out of sync, and Biles is no stranger to the condition.
“For anyone saying I quit, I didn’t quit. My mind & body are simply not in sync,” Biles wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post about suffering from the condition during the Tokyo Olympics. “I don’t think you realize how dangerous this is on hard/competition surfaces. Nor do I have to explain why I put my health first. Physical health is mental health.”
“Literally can not tell up from down. It’s the craziest feeling ever. Not having an inch of control over your body. What’s even scarier is since I have no idea where I am in the air, I also have NO idea how I am going to land. Or what I am going to land on. Head/hands/feet back…,” the athlete continued on writing. “I didn’t have a bad performance and quit. I’ve had plenty of bad performances throughout my career and finished competitions. I simply got so lost my safety was at risk as well as a team medal.”
“It’s honestly petrifying trying to do a skill but not having your mind & body in sync. 10/10 do not recommend.”
Simone Biles’ quotes on how young she is
Biles was 19 at her first Olympics in 2016, meaning she had to have spent a lot of her adolescent life training. Biles commented on that, saying: “I was missing out on public school and going to the football games, prom or homecomings. But I’ve been to three World Championships … so I think it’s like a win-win.“
