Who Is Tom Ackerley? Meet Margot Robbie’s Husband Amid Their Exciting Baby News!

Oscar nominee Margot Robbie is pregnant! That’s right, Barbie herself is going to have a baby. But with whom? Well, the actress has been married to Tom Ackerley since 2016, but unlike his wife, Ackerley is relatively unknown. Keep scrolling to meet him!

Who is Tom Ackerley?

Born on June 13, 1990, under the name Thomas Francis Michael Ackerley, Robbie’s husband is an English film producer. He studied at the Godalming College in the U.K. and quickly found his passion: working behind the scenes of various movies.

Some notable titles that he’s worked on are I, Tonya (2017), Dreamland (2019), Barbie (2023) and Saltburn (2023).

Before all of that though, Ackerley worked on the Harry Potter films, with his wife Robbie saying, “My husband is in the Harry Potter movies. I know, I was like, ‘Had you told me sooner we would’ve been married very quickly. But he was an extra when he was a little kid — he was one of the Slytherin extras when Draco pushes some kids out of the way to see Buckbeak in the third book. He pushes my husband out of the way.”

Ackerley also owns a production company with his wife called Luckychap Entertainment. It was founded in 2014, with its most recent release being Saltburn in 2023.

“If we can be a company that curates new and emerging talent and can bring them through and provides that platform to do bigger movies and studio movies, that’s ideally what we want to do,” Ackerley said when explaining why he and Robbie decided to found a production company.

Robbie added onto that saying: “It’s nice to be in business with people where I already know we’re going to do life together anyway.”

How did Tom Ackerley and Margot Robbie meet?

While the two have never officially confirmed how they met, it is widely believed that they met on the set of Suite Franchise in 2013 — Robbie was starring in the film, while Ackerley was working as an assistant director at the time.

“I was the ultimate single gal. The idea of relationships made me want to vomit,” Robbie explained. “And then this crept up on me. We were friends for so long. I was always in love with him, but I thought, Oh, he would never love me back. Don’t make it weird, Margot. Don’t be stupid and tell him that you like him. And then it happened, and I was like, Of course we’re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.”

The two would go on to marry in 2016 in a secret ceremony three years after they met and two years after they founded their production company. To this day, Robbie and Ackerley still work together in a full-time capacity.

“[We spend] 24 hours a day [together],” Ackerley told The Sunday Times in June 2024 while explaining how he and Robbie balance their personal and professional lives. “It’s seamless. We don’t have a toggle on, toggle off. It’s all become one thing.”
