Aces, clutch hitters, and more: Cape Cod High School Baseball All-Stars Team

By Courtney Jacobs, Cape Cod Times,

The baseball talent on Cape Cod is some of the best in the state, and no I'm not talking about the Cape Cod Baseball League .

Ten Cape Cod and Islands teams made the high school state tournament this past season and three of them ― Bourne, Dennis-Yarmouth and Sandwich ― made the Elite Eight.

Although Bourne came up short of defending its Division 5 state championship, they still had a good playoff run. Despite a 3-17 regular season record, the Canalmen won three playoff games.

Dennis-Yarmouth won both of its playoff games on the road, which included an 11-2 win over No. 2 Uxbridge as the 18th seed in the Round of 16.

Sandwich outscored its first two opponents in the postseason 16-1, and came up just short of a Final Four appearance as No. 4 Apponequet beat them 1-0.

Mashpee, Upper Cape, Monomoy, Nauset and Cape Tech also recorded a playoff win.

Here are the players who showcased the talent.

Presenting the 2024 Cape Cod Times baseball All-Stars:

    First Team

    Sladen Johnson, Barnstable

Johnson was named the Cape and Islands Atlantic Division MVP. Johnson did it all for the Red Hawks on the mound and at the plate. He had six games with at least seven strikeouts, which included two games with 10 Ks. In an 8-1 win over Dennis-Yarmouth, he went 3-for-4 at the plate, and fell a home run short of a cycle.

He also added one home run, 10 RBIs, and scored 16 runs. In the postseason (four games this season, and the Final Four and state title game last season), he has pitched 13 innings, struck out 26, allowed seven hits and four earned runs. In the Round of 32 game this season against Westport (6-3 win), Finton pitched a complete game, struck out 15, scattered five hits, and allowed three earned runs.

“Incredibly talented left handed swinging first baseman,” Bourne head coach Sean Donovan said. “He has a hunger to be better and takes pride in his craft.”

Finton's highlight of the season was when the Canalmen made a playoff run (three wins) with a bad record (3-17 regular season record). Finton is also on the golf and hockey teams for Bourne.
