Labrador Retriever Leans Off Boat To Give Massive Whale Shark A Kiss

Although probably not as curious as cats, dogs can be inquisitive. Jade Pursell is a diver who had a heartwarming experience off the coast of Australia near the Ningaloo Reef. A whale shark appeared near the divers. Jade initially thought the shark was chasing after their air bubbles. It didn’t take her long to realize that the whale shark wanted to say hello to Jade’s yellow Labrador retriever, Sailor.

While Jade was in the water with her camera, 8-year-old Sailor was alone on the boat. He started to get excited when the whale shark appeared. Rushing to the back of the tiny boat, the Labrador leaned over the edge to get a better look at the whale shark. The shark was equally curious, swimming very close to the boat and lifting its head out of the water.

After several near misses, the Labrador and the whale shark touched noses. The shark was around 22 feet long. Whale sharks are not dangerous to humans and are fondly called the ocean’s gentle giants. While Jade was telling Sailor not to touch the curious animal , he set about to do the opposite. When they touched noses, Jade caught the incredible moment on video.

After the meeting, Jade expressed joy that her Labrador could meet and kiss the whale shark. She was also happy that Sailor didn’t jump out of the boat onto the shark. During an interview with South West News Service (SWNS), Jade said, “It was such an innocent interaction; I felt so lucky to see it. To think Sailor is probably the only dog in the world to have kissed a whale shark is pretty special.”
