Liverpool is reportedly "in talks" with a Euro 2024 final star following some standout performances in Germany this summer. The player will cost the Reds a pretty penny, however, with his club expected to ask for around $85m (£65m/€77m) for his services.

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi wasn't Gareth Southgate's first-choice defender heading into this summer's tournament but an injury to Harry Maguire meant he was next man up to partner Manchester City's John Stones in the heart of England's back four - and he didn't disappoint.

In fact, the 24-year-old was one of one of the standout players for the Three Lions as they reached a second consecutive Euros final, starting six out of seven games and helping to keep two clean sheets. It followed up an impressive domestic campaign for Guehi, who featured 29 times as Palace achieved a top half finish in the Premier League .

Now, Liverpool are eyeing up a swoop. According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are huge admirers of the former Chelsea man and negotiations are "on" with the Eagles despite his recent involvement for England. The Reds will also have to cough up at least $85m if they want to sign him, with the Telegraph reporting the Eagles have slapped a substantial pricetag on the player.

Guehi still has two years left on his deal and the south London club are in no rush to sell, with the defender one of their most important assets. However, they may be tempted to sell for the right price.

Liverpool currently have Virgil van Dijk , Ibrahima Konate , Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah as their center back options, but Arne Slot may want to add further experience to his backline ahead of his first season in charge at Anfield . And Guehi could be the perfect man, with teammates and pundits alike plauding him for his efforts at Euro 2024.

England teammate and Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham called him "brilliant" following England's opening group stage victory over Serbia last month. Following the full-time whistle, he said: “He was brilliant. He picked the lines amazingly. He led against two, for me, really good centre-forwards at this level in (Dusan) Vlahovic and (Aleksandar) Mitrovic, two really, really tricky customers. It will help a lot when he has (John) Stones beside him, one of the best around. He was fantastic.”

With the England squad now set to return following Sunday's heartbreaking defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final, negotiations for Guehi will be expected to ramp up. Following Joel Matip's exit at the end of last season, Liverpool are especially keen to find a replacement, so it would be no surprise to see them go full steam ahead of a deal.
