Yes, Sunfyre most likely survived the battle. Early in episode 5, Criston Cole mentions that they left Sunfyre, who was “long in the dying” but not dead, at Rook’s Rest. However, toward the end of the episode, Rhaenyra seems to imply in a conversation with Jacaerys that Sunfyre has died. This understandably has confused some viewers about what really happened to the dragon.

In Fire & Blood, Sunfyre didn’t die at Rook’s Rest and went on to play a critical role in the Targaryen civil war. The men Criston left behind fed him the corpses of their enemies. When they ran out of those, they got him calves and sheep. Eventually, Sunfyre’s wing healed, though at an awkward angle, and he was able to fly again. The dragon eventually reunited with Aegon II.
