    Summer construction continues

    The following is a round-up of current PennDOT road work and construction projects in northcentral Pa.:

    Lycoming County

    A two-year roadway project continues along Interstate 180 eastbound and westbound in Montoursville Borough, and Loyalsock, Fairfield, and Muncy townships.

    On Monday, July 15, and Thursday, July 18, the contractor will be placing reflective markings on I-180 westbound between just west of the Lycoming Mall Drive interchange and the bridges that span the Lycoming Creek. Drivers can expect lane restrictions where work is being performed. Work will be performed between the hours of 5 a.m. and 2 p.m.

    The week of Monday, July 15, the contractor will continue work on the new lighting system along I-180 in both directions and on the exit and entrance ramps at Exit 20 (Fairfield Road) and the Interstate 180 westbound entrance ramp from Broad Street (Route 2014). Drivers should expect the shoulder to be closed where work is being performed. Work will be performed between the hours of 4 a.m. and 2 p.m.

    Glenn O. Hawbaker is the prime contractor for this $11.4 million highway resurfacing project. Work in 2023 included mill and resurface of over 13 miles of roadway including entrance and exit ramps at Route 87 and the Fairfield Road interchanges, pavement marking, and epoxy of bridges throughout the work zone. Work in 2024 includes new lighting, guide rail upgrades, and signage. Work on this project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2024.

    Resurfacing Routes 44 and 3003

    A roadway and bridge replacement project continues on Main Street (Route 44) and Main Street/River Road (Route 3003) in both directions in Jersey Shore Borough and Porter, Piatt, and Nippenose townships.

    The week of Monday, July 15, the contractor will continue excavation operations and placing bedding material for the box culvert replacement spanning Lawshe Run. Work will take place during daylight hours.

    Long-Term Closure

    Route 44 (North Main Street) is closed in both directions at the Jersey Shore Borough / Piatt Township line, while the contractor replaces the bridge that carries North Main Street over Lawshe Run.A detour using Route 220, Route 3027 (Thomas Street), and Allegheny Street, will be in place for the duration of the bridge replacement. The detour is anticipated to be in place until Friday, September 20, weather permitting.

    HRI is the prime contractor for this $4.9 million roadway resurfacing project. Work on this project includes mill and resurface of approximately one mile of roadway on Routes 44 and 3003, including a portion of the on and off ramps of Route 220 at Main Street, guide rail upgrades, drainage upgrades, sewer line relocation, ADA curb ramps, and pavement markings. Additional work on this project includes bridge replacement, bridge deck repairs, neoprene strip seal glad replacement and epoxy overlay. These bridges span over Lawshe Run, Route 220, and the Susquehanna River. Work on this project is expected to be completed in late October.

    Embankment stabilization project on Route 44

    A two-year embankment stabilization project will begin this week on Route 44 between Route 973 and Waterville in Cummings and Watson townships.

    Starting on Wednesday, July 17, the contractor will begin drainage work, tree clearing, erosion and sediment control, and survey work. Motorists can expect single lane conditions with flagging where work is being performed. Work will be performed between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

    Glenn O. Hawbaker is the prime contractor for this $9.3 million embankment stabilization project administered through a partnership between EQT Production Company and PennDOT. Work includes stabilization of 18 embankment areas using a combination of geosynthetic reinforced soil, soil nailing, and soldier pile and lagging walls. Additional work includes paving, line painting, and guide rail upgrades. Work is anticipated to be completed by the summer of 2025.

    Route 87 resurfacing

    A resurfacing project continues on Route 87 in Montoursville Borough, Fairfield Township, Upper Fairfield Township, and Plunketts Creek Township.

    The week of Sunday, July 14, the contractor will be performing milling and paving along Route 87 between Interstate 180 overpass in Montoursville Borough and Snyder’s Country Pet Food. Work will be performed between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Drivers can expect single lane conditions with flagging where work is being performed.

    Glenn O. Hawbaker is the prime contractor for this $2.6 million resurfacing project. Work includes milling and resurfacing of the roadway, base repairs, drainage work, guide rail and sign upgrades. The project is anticipated to be completed in the fall of 2024.

    Bradford County

    A four-year reconstruction project continues on Route 199 in Sayre and Athens, Bradford County. The 2.6-mile project is located .44-mile north of the intersection with Front Street (Route 1056) in Athens Borough to the intersection with the Southern Tier Expressway (Interstate 17) at the New York state line in Sayre Borough. The project begins at the New York state line and works south.

    The week of Monday, July 15, contractor will begin work in the southbound lane on Main Street (Route 199) between Spruce Street and Cooper Street on this full depth pavement reconstruction project. Work includes new pavement, drainage improvements, utility relocations, sidewalk and curb improvements, ADA curb ramp installations, traffic signal upgrades, driveway adjustments, signing and pavement markings and other miscellaneous construction.

    Detour information:

    Northbound cars will follow a .78-mile detour using Walnut Street, North River Street, and East Orchard Street. Southbound cars will be maintained in the work zone.Truck traffic will follow a 7.7-mile detour using Route 220 and Interstate 17 (Southern Tier Expressway).

    Kriger Construction is the prime contractor on this $16.4 million, four-year roadway reconstruction project. The project is anticipated to be completed in the fall.

    Pipe replacement project Herrickville Road

    Portions of Herrickville Road (Route 1017) will be closed this week in Wyalusing and Herrick townships for a pipe replacement project.

    On Monday, July 15, Herrickville Road will be closed between the intersections with Route 706 and Rummerfield Creek Road (Route 1021), while a PennDOT maintenance crew replace deteriorating pipes.

    A detour using Route 409, Route 6 and Rummerfield Creek Road in Wyalusing, Standing Stone, and Herrick townships will be in place while the work is being performed.

    Work is expected to be completed on Friday, July 19, weather permitting.

    Tioga County

    A portion of Jackson Center Road (Route 1013) will be closed this week in Rutland and Jackson townships for a pipe replacement project.

    Starting at 7 a.m. Monday, July 15, through 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, Jackson Center Road will be closed between Bailey Creek Road (Route 1011) and Warner Road (Route 1018), while a PennDOT maintenance crew begins work on a pipe replacement project.

    Starting on Wednesday, July 17, though Friday, July 19, Jackson Center Road will be closed during daylight hours only between Bailey Creek Road and Warner Road, while crews complete the pipe replacement project.

    A detour using Bailey Creek Road, Route 549, and Pony Hill Road (Route 1018) will in in place.

    Route 414 and Blockhouse Road

    A two-year roadway improvement project continues on Water Street (Route 414), Blockhouse Road (Route 2005), and Williamson Road (Route 2007) in Liberty Borough and Liberty Township.

    The week of Monday, July 15, the contractor will be performing drainage work on High Street (Route 414) between Blockhouse Road and North Penn Liberty High School. Motorists can expect single lane conditions with flagging.

    Work continues on the installation of the 84-inch pipe across Route 414 between Water Street and Shaffer Hill Road.

    Long-Term Closure

    Water Street is closed in both directions between Shaffer Hill Road and just south of Bloss Mountain Road.

    A detour using Route 15 and Bloss Mountain Road is in place.

    Glenn O. Hawbaker is the prime contractor for this two-year $6.2 million roadway improvement project. Work on this project includes drainage work on Route 414 (High Street/Water Street) and Blockhouse Road, roadway reconstruction, retaining wall, sidewalks, curbing, and resurfacing of 1.7 miles of Williamson Road. Work is expected to be complete in November of 2025, weather permitting. Motorists can expect a winter shut down between construction seasons.

    Potter County

    A Potter County box culvert replacement project will begin this week. Spanning Shinglebolt Hollow Run along Route 3001 (East Fork Road) in Summit Township, the structure is nine feet long and carries an average of 144 vehicles daily. Replacing the box culvert will improve its rating from poor to good.

    Starting July 14, PennDOT will close this section of Route 3001 and a detour using Route 44 (Coudersport Pike), Route 6 (Grand Army of the Republic Highway), and Route 872 (Inez Road) will be in place. The closure and detour are expected to be in effect through July 26. Residents along Route 3001 will be able to access their homes during the closure.

    This is a joint effort between PennDOT Potter County maintenance forces and Nestlerode Contracting Co Inc., of Lock Haven. PennDOT crews arrived Monday, July 8, to begin the excavation work while the contractor will set the box culvert. This project has a $251,429 value.

    Clinton County

    Manual patching work begins this week on Interstate 80 westbound between mile marker 172 and 177. Monday, July 15, through Friday, July 19. PennDOT will implement short-term lane closures while completing this work.

    Other work planned includes:

    Pipe Replacing & Cleaning

    Route 2012 from the Route 220 interchange at Lock Haven to the intersection of Pine Mountain Road in Wayne Township. Monday, July 15, through Friday, July 19. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.

    Shoulder Maintenance

    Route 2018 (Jacksonville Road) from the Porter Township line, into Lamar Township, to the intersection with Route 64. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.Route 2004 (Mackeyville Road) from the intersection of Rag Valley Road to the intersection of Route 64 in Lamar Township. Wednesday, July 17. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.Route 2006 from the intersection of Maple Avenue to the intersection of Route 477 in Lamar Township. Thursday, July 18. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.Route 2008 (Main Street/Auction Road/Bell Springs Road) from the intersection of Mackeyville Road to the intersection of Route 477 in Lamar Township. Friday, July 19. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.

    Columbia County

    Starting this week, a portion of South Austin Trail Road (Route 4039) will be closed daily in Greenwood Township for a pipe replacement project.

    On Tuesday, July 16, through Friday, July 19, Austin Trail Road will be closed between Route 254 and Eagle Road (Route 4037), while a PennDOT maintenance crew performs a pipe replacement.

    A detour using Route 254 and Eagle Road will be in place while work is being performed. Work will be performed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.

    Northumberland County

    A bridge preservation project will begin this week on Interstate 80 westbound in Turbot Township.

    Starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, the contractor will be performing milling, deck repairs, waterproofing and paving of the Interstate 80 westbound bridge over Route 254 near Limestoneville.

    Work will be performed daily Sunday through Thursday starting at 7 p.m. and ending at 1 p.m. the following day. This work is expected to be completed in approximately three weeks.

    Union County

    A lane restriction will be in place this week on Route 15 southbound in Kelly Township for a construction project.

    On Tuesday, July 16, and Wednesday, July 17, contractor Schlouch will be placing a barrier along the right shoulder of Route 15 southbound between Bill Mark’s Auto Sales and Ziegler Road. Drivers can expect the right (driving) lane to be restricted between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

    Drivers should be alert and drive with caution through construction zones. All work is weather dependent.
