German Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser draw positive conclusions from Euro 2024 after the final match, in which Spain took the title after a 2-1 win over England on Sunday.

"We have experienced the fantastic football festival in the heart of Europe that we all wanted. Our country has presented itself as a good host," Faeser said in a press release.

"Many images of this summer in our cities will remain unforgettable," she added.

Football could "of course not solve the problems of our time, but in these weeks it has created a sense of community that has done us good as a society," she said.

Hundreds of thousands of fans have visited Germany since the European Championship began on June 14.

Faeser thanked "above all the tens of thousands of police officers in the federal states and the federal government, the emergency services, the many volunteers" for a "peaceful football festival."

She praised the fact that there were no serious security incidents relating to the tournament.

UEFA: Always happy when we can come to Germany

Tournament organizers UEFA also praised the work done during the month-long competition.

"We are very satisfied with the result. There were great fans, great organization, cities that fully participated. We at UEFA are always very happy when we can do something in Germany," UEFA tournament director Martin Kallen said on Monday.

Berlin's senator for sports Iris Spranger said that a total of one million people visited the two fan zones in the city near the iconic Brandenburg Gate.

"We have shown that we can provide security. Berlin has won," she said.

Talking about a potential Olympic Games in Berlin, she added: "Of course we can also do the Olympics. But we can only do it if it's a national bid and the federal government decides so."
