We’re hearing and seeing more about artificial intelligence every day, from our Google search results to weird images with too many fingers.

How long will it take until AI can convincingly recreate us, or at least our favorite celebrities?

Well, a recent case has caused concern. Marvel star Scarlett Johansson recently clashed with OpenAI after it revealed a new voice feature that sounded a lot like she did when she played a voice assistant in the 2013 film “Her.”

“It does, I think, open a lot of questions about how we have any control at all over our own voice… who can use it, who can appropriate it, and the ways in which [it] can be manipulated,” said Dr. David Gunkel , a professor of media studies at Northern Illinois University of the Johansson case.

He joined the “Something Offbeat” podcast to discuss the rapidly growing world of AI as we head into an already complicated and contentious election season. With host Mike Rogers, Gunkel covered what the rise in AI might mean for sports, news, entertainment and more.
