    Make memories at the 2024 Barron County Fair

    Come for the food, stay for the memories when the gates open Wednesday for the five-day run of the 148th annual Barron County Fair.

    Here is a sampling of events:The opening ceremony begins on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Harness racing is held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday with a $5 admission.

    Cookies & Crowns begins at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, with the pedal pull starting at 4:30 p.m.

    Friday concludes with the gigantic demo derby at 8 p.m.

    Saturday begins at 8 a.m. with Gymkhana horse events and the Cops & Robbers 5K at 8:30 a.m. The Junior Livestock Sale starts at 1:30 p.m, while 7 p.m. marks the start of the gigantic truck and tractor mini-rod pull extravaganza.

    On Sunday the State Fair dairy parade starts at 11 a.m.

    Special fair features include:The crowning of the new Fairest will take place at the Barron County Fair on Sunday. She will receive a $1,000 scholarship and represent Barron County at the State Fairs Convention. The runner-up will receive a $100 scholarship, and all other participants will receive $25.

    New this year, Junior Fairest of the Fair is open to those that have just completed grades five, six or seven.

    The purpose of the Junior Fairest of the Fair is to be an ambassador of the Barron County Fair and participate in promotional programs and media events throughout the year including parades and other community events. The Junior Fairest will work alongside the Barron County Fairest of the Fair and the Fairest Program coordinators.

    The Little Britches Show at noon on Sunday gives youth — 5 and under and 6 to 7 year olds — an opportunity to get involved with the fair regardless of dairy knowledge or availability.

    Hot Glass Academy, featuring glassblowing professionals, is making its second appearance at the Barron County Fair. Fairgoers are encouraged to spark their imagination through a material that is 2,000˚ F and a process that is more than 2,000 years old.

    New this year is Gizmo D. Robot, a completely interactive robot performer with a wacky sense of humor and a non-stop standup comedy act, who will wheel his way up and down the midway, greeting fairgoers with “his witty repartee and ability to have a full human conversation, only smarter.”

    Spectrum Entertainment’s carnival is open Wednesday through Sunday.

    Gate admission is $6 daily for ages 16 and up, $3 daily for ages 6-15 and free daily for ages 5 and under. Season prices are $20 for ages 16 and up and $10 for ages 6-15. Kids age 15 and under free until 4 p.m. on Kids Day, July 18, when all rides are $2 from 1-10 p.m. Admission is $4 until 4 p.m. ages 62 or better on Senior Day, July 19. Active military personnel are free with a military ID throughout the fair.

    The Barron County Fairgrounds are located at 1035 Hammond Ave., Rice Lake.
