A 34-year-old man was charged Monday for murdering two men whose remains were found inside two suitcases in southwest England, police shared.

London’s Metropolitan Police shared that Yostin Andres Mosquera has been charged with the murder of Albert Alfonso, 61, and Paul Longworth, 71.

According to the police, the victims had previously been in a relationship and still lived together. The suspect had been staying with them at their west London apartment.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine said the “evidence gathered so far does not suggest there was a homophobic motive.”

However, officers are following their national guidelines and initially categorized the incident as a hate crime.

“I hope it will be of some reassurance that whilst inquiries are still ongoing and the investigation is at a relatively early stage, we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the two murders,” Valentine said.

Police arrested the suspect at a train station in Bristol on Saturday. They had discovered the body parts in suitcases on the city’s Clifton Suspension Bridge, an iconic landmark in the city, three days prior.

Officers had received reports of a man acting strangely at the bridge on Wednesday and arrived there just around midnight. The man was gone, but the suitcases were still there.

After further investigation, more of the victims’ remains were found in their London home.

The investigation into the killings remains ongoing at this point.
