DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A Hamilton County woman is headed to prison for stealing the Social Security number of a dead child.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of Ohio, Christina Vaskovsky, 56, was recently sentenced to 24 months in prison for Social Security number fraud.

Citing court documents, the U.S. Attorney’s Office claims Vaskovsky was indicted in 2008 in Hamilton County for reportedly taking $14,500 from her employer. She is said to have not shown up to her 2008 trial for the incident, which prompted the issuance of a nationwide warrant.

The release says Vaskovsky decided to get an Ohio driver’s license, but the name did not belong to her. She used the name, date of birth and Social Security number of a child born during the same year as her, but who died at 10-years-old in 1977.

Over 13 years, the woman received thousands of dollars in food stamp, Medicare, Social Security, Supplemental Security Income disability and unemployment benefits. Vaskovsky also filed bankruptcy, applied for an Economic Injury Disaster Loan and provided the false identification during a shoplifting arrest in Kentucky.

Vaskovsky was arrested and charged in November 2023. She later pled guilty to five counts of Social Security number fraud, according to the release.

Aside from the prison sentence, Vaskovsky is required to pay around $191,000 to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Social Security Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
