In the first trailer for Netflix’s new anime series Terminator Zero , a resistance fighter named Eiko (Sonoya Mizuno) is sent back to 1997 to prevent Skynet from gaining self-awareness and waging war against humanity. Watch the teaser below.

Spanning eight episodes, Terminator Zero centers around Eiko, who time travels from post-Judgment Day 2022 to stop a computer programmer named Malcolm Lee (André Holland) from launching Japan’s answer to Skynet: an advanced AI called Kokoro (Rosario Dawson). Standing in Eiko’s way is Timothy Olyphant as the Terminator himself.

“This isn’t what you think it is,” Eiko says in the trailer, presumably warning Lee about the Terminator. “You can’t see it yet. But you’ve been on a collision course your entire life. It will never, ever stop. There’s only one thing standing in between you and him. Me.”

Creator Mattson Tomlin (who’s also writing The Batman II ) is the showrunner and writer of Terminator Zero . The voice cast also includes Ann Dowd as the Prophet, who’s described as “the philosophical guide for the human resistance, a light shepherding survivors in the darkness of the unknown future ahead.”

Terminator Zero begins streaming on August 29th, which coincides with the anniversary of Judgment Day.
