    VSP: Motorcyclist dead after I-81 crash in Smyth County

    SMYTH COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — A motorcyclist is dead after a crash on Interstate 81 in Smyth County on Sunday, police report.

    Virginia State Police (VSP) reports a 2020 Harley Davidson Road Glide was traveling southbound near mile marker 48 at 3:52 p.m. when it went off the left side of the road, hitting a guardrail.

    The driver of the motorcycle, identified by VSP as Carl L. Coe, 36, of Hillsville, was thrown from the motorcycle. He reportedly died at the scene.

    Coe was wearing a helmet, according to VSP.

    The crash remains under investigation.
