Good morning everyone. Our heatwave in the Northeast is in full gear as mid to upper 90's take hold across NYC are interior parts of the Tri-State area. This is the symptom of a much larger ranging and prolonged heatwave gripping the Southeast and Midwest. This is a hot summer, plain and simple, and we expect relief to be brief in nature; with 80's Thursday - Saturday bouncing back to 90's by Sunday.

Aside from the heat, our big story and immediate concern, will be a return of severe weather tonight to the Midwest and Central States. We wake up this morning to the sound of thunder across parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin, but once again, that is the dying action of last night's storms, and we will see severe weather reemerge tonight.

Look for scattered storms developing later this afternoon/evening in parts of upper/central Minnesota and Wisconsin. This will develop into a powerful, fast moving, long-ranging line that could attain Derecho status. We're expecting this line to produce a wide swath of damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and the potential for tornadoes; across parts of Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and possibly into Michigan & Kentucky if the line survives the trip.

The timeline on this severe weather risk is later this afternoon through the early morning hours. Here is your local NYC forecast -

Look for mostly sunny skies with the slight chance of a thunderstorm later in the day. The best chance to see some strong to severe weather, will be in western and central parts of the state. Highs today in the mid 90's, but we could see a few upper 90 hits.

Heat continues tomorrow with the slight chance of a PM storm. Highs in the mid to upper 90's. We'll have a mix of sun & clouds Wednesday, especially as the day goes on. Look for a better chance of strong to severe storms with low to mid 90's.

"Relief" comes on Thursday with upper 80's, sun & clouds, and the chance of some leftover storms. Friday is our best day, with dry upper 80's and full sunshine.

Humidity begins to return on Saturday with more upper 80's, then we should be back in the 90's by Sunday with sunshine.
