British Alt-pop group Glass Animals’ 2020 hit “Heat Waves” almost never was according to frontman Dave Bayley , who revealed recently that the track was on the table for consideration at the Roc Nation offices for some time.

Speaking with The Independent , Glass Animals frontman Dave Bayley said that it was the idea of vulnerability that initially led him down the road of offering "Heat Waves" to another artist to record, revealing at the time “It felt too personal and vulnerable to do it myself, because the little secret in that song would be very, very strongly attached to me. And that was quite scary. I had hoped it would be someone else’s song.”

Interestingly enough, he adds the band first offered the track to Rihanna , saying, “It got so far that I was sitting in the Roc Nation offices, playing the song for her manager.”

Fortunately, in Dave’s view, that never ended up happening and he was happy to have been able to complete the song himself. “I ended up sending them parts of the song, but I’m grateful it didn’t go further,” he explains: “But at the same time, obviously, I’m a huge fan -- I would’ve loved it.”

In the end, the song's popularity was a welcome surprise. “I thought it was way too personal and vulnerable to really do what it did," Bailey admits, "so that gave me a lot of confidence,” he says. Check out the full interview here .
