WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — As scorching temperatures rise across the DMV, various closures and cancellations of outdoor activities are taking place on Monday.

In a post on the X platform , Arlington County Parks and Recreation said that all Parks and Recreation and Partner Outdoor Programming, including league practices and games, will be closed at county outdoor facilities between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.

This cancellation comes as the area is under an Excessive Heat Warning , according to the National Weather Service.

In Fairfax County, a similar cancellation is in effect. Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) said all outdoor activities scheduled on FCPS fields and courts are canceled from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Employees whose jobs require outdoor work, such as landscaping, groundskeeping, and general facilities are required to complete their workday indoors, according to the FCPS website .

Alternate work tasks that can be completed include indoor maintenance and mandatory training.

Some facilities are also closed due to excessive heat and lack of adequate air conditioning.

According to the Montgomery County Customer Service Center , the Montgomery County Executive Office Building in Rockville is closed and set to reopen on July 16 due to a “malfunction” in the air conditioning system.
