    Tour de France prize money breakdown: How much will the winner, others make in 2024?

    It'll be hard to find a more grueling sporting competition than the Tour de France.

    The annual cycling race is underway, as riders are competing in 21 stages across three weeks. The race begins in in Florence, Italy and ends Sun, July 21 in Paris, France.

    As is the case with most sporting events, it's not just bragging rights up for grabs. There is a cash prize at the end available to the participants, with a multitude of ways for these competitors to go home with a check.

    Here is the full breakdown of prize money for the 2024 Tour de France.

    Tour de France 2024 prize money

    This year, the 176 competitors are racing for a share of a €2,301,200, which is roughly the equivalent of $2,511,288.

    The amount is a tad less than the 2023 total of €2,308,200.

    How much does the 2024 Tour de France winner get?

    The victor of the 2024 Tour de France heads home with a big paycheck for their efforts. The winner receives a payout of €500,000 ($542,140).

    Prize money is also awarded to the rest of the top 20 finishers at the event. Second place receives €200,000 ($218,259) and third place gets €100,000 ($109,129).

    Each stage winner is awarded €11,000, while second and third place each day get €5,500 and €2,800.

    Prize money for the Tour de France does not just go to where each racer finishes. The full payout is extensive and a tad complicated.

    There are a multitude of ways for cyclists and teams to earn cash at the Tour de France, including winning individual stages to sporting different jerseys.
