Anthony Starr got emotional while discussing the impending end of The Boys in a recent interview with IGN , saying, "It's been such a ride together with this group of people that it'll be very sad."

It has been confirmed that season five will be the final chapter of The Boys , and Starr — who plays Homelander — spoke candidly about the emotions behind closing the door on that chapter of his life, saying, "It'll be a sad day to hang up the spandex."

Nonetheless, Starr recognizes that it will be the right decision for the series, saying, "I'm very conscious that I want us to go out on a really positive note."

"I don't want us to be the show that pushed one season too far and fell flat," Starr said. "On behalf of everyone that works on the show, I think we deserve to go out with our heads up, not feeling like we should have gone earlier or we overstayed our welcome, so to speak. I think it'll be about the right time, but also it'll be a hard thing to leave."

The Boys has managed to keep up its reputation throughout its time on air, with the first season landing a Certified Fresh critics rating of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes in 2019. Since then, follow-up seasons have exceeded that, with season two scoring 97% and season three scoring 98%.

However, The Boys season four is the lowest rated of the series so far in audience ratings. It became the first negative score of the four at 52%. Still, critics had their say and gave it 93% – 8% higher than season one – which remains the lowest critic rating of the four.
