Fire at Atwater Soccer Complex in Hopewell determined suspicious by officials

HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — Following a fire that caused significant damage to the Atwater Soccer Complex concession stand in Hopewell Sunday night, officials have determined the fire to be suspicious, though the investigation continues.

According to a city spokesperson, a fire broke out in the evening on Sunday, July 14 at the Atwater Soccer Complex concession stand, which significantly damaged the structure.

Hopewell Fire and EMS responded quickly and extinguished the fire.

Though officials continue to investigate, the Fire Marshal’s Office has determined the fire is suspicious.

As a result of the fire, the spokesperson said the complex will be closed until further notice while cleanup and investigation efforts are underway.

Community members are asked to stay away from the affected area to allow emergency responders to work.
