A group of 55 Michiganders, as well as several featured speakers, will be representing the state in Milwaukee this week as the four-day Republican National Convention gets underway Monday.

U.S. Rep. John James, R-Shelby Township, who is automatically an at-large delegate to the convention, is expected to speak Monday on the convention's first evening. The convention will conclude Thursday with former President Donald Trump — who survived an assassination attempt Saturday outside Pittsburgh — accepting the party's nomination for the third election cycle and speaking to the crowd.

Others expected to speak at the convention are former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Brighton, who Trump has endorsed in the Aug. 6 primary for the nomination to Michigan's open U.S. Senate seat, and businessman Perry Johnson, a former gubernatorial candidate who also made a brief run for the GOP nomination for president last year.

Also speaking are Benjamin Joseph, a small businessman in Macomb County, and the Rev. Lorenzo Sewell , senior pastor of 180 Church in Detroit, which hosted a roundtable discussion with Trump in June. It wasn't immediately known when the others would speak.

Michigan's delegation to the nominating convention includes 55 delegates, including state Republican Party Chairman Pete Hoekstra, national committee members Kathy Berden and Dr. Rob Steele, the state's six GOP members of the U.S. House, former Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and others.
